GIMP 2.8 released! (Finally!)After a long time GIMP 2.8 is finally released!

Unfortunately Windows binaries are not available just yet, but keep checking! (You could always install from source if you know how). Windows binaries are available!
Packages should work their way into your favourite package distributor for the more Linux inclined among us.
Brief Summary of New Features

(Optional) Single window mode!

On canvas text editting (No more annoying text edit popup)

Use maths in input boxes! (E.g. In image width put "720*0.5" and you'll get an image 360 pixels wide)
