Quite an eyecatching piece of work.What draws you in is the contrasting darkness and light.I especially like the model used-The cloaked darth vader-like garb adds the feel of sorcery and medieval magick to it.The concept as a whole is pretty imaginative.
However,there are a few things that seem out of place
a)lightning in the background would have been cooler had you added a larger background with perhaps night/stormy sky.
b)the globe is not in his palm ..it seems to be resting on his wrist!
c)why the lens flare?theres's no light source that justifies it being there..it looks pretty cool though

also the globe in his hand seems to be vaporizing away with smoke around it...i don't know if thats what you were aiming for so it isn't a negative really.
Overall,yes you should submit it to the competition simply because its cool
